Christmas memories......

A378 - WWII - 7th Army - 101st Airbourne - While enemy shells scream overhead, outside, Christmas carols are sung by members of the 101st AB, under siege in Bastogne, Belgium during 1944 midnight Christmas service. Shortly after this photos was taken enemy bombers broke up the service, 12/24/44.

CARRIER CLASSIC: MSU vs No Carolina

USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70)

Friday, 11 NOV 2011 - Rain is predicted and perhaps some heavy waves as the carrier and teams prepare for a traditional basketball game on this Remembrance Day, Veterans Day 2011. The Carrier Classics flight deck has been transformed and this afternoon, coaches Tom Izzo of Michigan State and Roy Williams of North Carolina are confident their teams will put on a great Veterans Day show for the approximately 7,000 in the crowd, including the nation's basketball-fan-in-chief, President Barack Obama, plus a national TV audience.

The players were reportedly, "blown away" when they boarded the nuclear-powered carrier, which stretches 1,092 feet, weighs 95,000 tons and has four steam catapults that can accelerate a jet fighter from 0 to 165 mph in just more than two seconds.

Check out author Jeremy Edward Shiok's journey through the South Pacific. High point of trip - joint forensic dig effort by POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) in Tarawa. You may have heard of the repatriation of 300+ Marines still buried in the sands of battle but coming home. Also at work, Steve C. Barber's documentation which includes a dive to a Sherman tank that overturned during the battle in 30ft of water, entombing it's crew.
